First Thoughts of Success for 2018 I will be including links to some video footage I shot yesterday. This is starting to show that after 20-30 hours of work during this year, the battle appears to be nearing it's final stages. Though there were still a large number of fronds to pull they were primarily very short, this being the primary reason why it took me so long to clear them. https://youtu.be/CqzxRnNgI-Q Previously the crosiers would emerge 3-6 inches before any thought of a leaf would start to form. Now some of the fronds appear to be fully formed, with several leaves, as they emerge from the ground. I'm not sure whether this is as a reaction to the significantly reduced levels of energy in the rhizomes. With my heart surgery imminent I am hoping that the post-operative recovery period (2-3 weeks) will not give too much opportunity for the plants to make a comeback. Now, 2019 - this is year 3 of my activities removing bracken from the area I targeted on our land at the top of the Horseshoe Pass in Llangollen, Wales, UK. The research that I completed before I started to tackle this work, in a systematic way, back in 2017, projected that this year's bracken would be in the area of 10% of the original population. As I write we are approaching the middle of July 2019 and I should say that, in general, this is a reasonable reflection of what I have observed this year. Bracken Skermishing - The First proper battles of the Year

7th May After this short period of warm weather the bracken has tried it's best to push on and considerably more fronds were in evidence in areas A (Top Quarry Area) and B (Bottom Road Area). After 60 mins of constant cutting I can say that the vast majority of fronds were removed from both areas. Due to the excellent growing conditions for the grass there was some difficulty in locating the fronds but after a few mins I got used to the tell-tale signs. The size of the fronds removed has increased somewhat to between 150-200 mm. It should be noted that these fronds have, in the main, appeared and grown to this high in the previous 3 days! I have not needed to adopt last years "white suit" as the fronds are considerably lower and softer and I understand that tick activity should be reduced. I will ensure that this is the case before going out again in a few days time and, if needed, I will re-commence the use of the white compression gear. During this early part o
